Who We Help

We are an inclusive organization

Trauma is considered to be an event that happens in an individual's life that is experienced as so overwhelming that they are unable to bounce back and resume their former resiliency.

Individuals don’t often realize they’ve been impacted by an event, or series of events, until much later.

HeartSpace Clinic provides services to individuals, organizations and communities who have been directly or indirectly affected by trauma, as well as anyone who has an interest in understanding more about trauma and resilience.

Trauma can impact individuals, families, schools systems and entire communities.

Traumatic events can consist of a single episode (motor vehicle accident or  tornado) or a series of chronic, long-term episodes (poverty, overwhelming work environment, divorce, domestic violence).  Whether an event is traumatic for an individual is highly personal.

High levels of stress in our society combined with the fact that children and adolescents are increasingly affected by ongoing daily traumas  (bullying, exposure to violence via media or video games) have contributed to increasing numbers of young people seeking help with stress and trauma.

The experience of trauma can create symptoms that look like behavioral or emotional symptoms - but are actually ways of coping with the impact of trauma on the body.

Highly trained mental health clinicians can address symptoms of trauma in one on one sessions (?). However, a trauma-informed community can provide ongoing understanding and support for trauma survivors in multiple interactions that can occur on a daily basis.
